Baking Soda And Sea Salt For Your Teeth.

Do you know that brushing your teeth with baking soda is inexpensive, natural and safe way to whiten your teeth and remove stains? Besides, sea salt and baking soda can be used alone or together to ensure strong gums and teeth, breakdown cavity inducing plaque buildup, and prevent smelly breath.

Benefits of Sea Salt

Sea salt has about 80+ different trace element and minerals. Some of these nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, nickel, magnesium, silicon, sodium, iron strengthen your gums, protect against tartar buildup and smelly breath, and may even help with whitening your teeth over time when used regularly. Because of antiseptic properties of iodine, sea salt counteracts acids in the mouth and reduces chances of cavities. Besides, salt induces salivation, and your saliva builds an antibacterial barrier which serves as an additional protection for your enamel.

How to use:

1. You can either brush your teeth as normally by dipping wet toothbrush into a 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt, or
2. You can make a salt water rinse which helps with inflamed, swollen gums and rinses away bacteria: mix 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in 4 oz of water, stir until salt dissolves, and then swish saltwater solution in your mouth for 30 seconds. Spit out and don’t swallow.

Benefits of Baking Soda:

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) has long been recognized as the natural remedy for teeth whitening. It is not too abrasive to damage tooth enamel but strong enough to remove plaque and clean your teeth.

Acids are the main reason for tooth decay. Being highly alkaline, baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate) neutralizes acids and creates alkaline environment in the mouth, which kills germs, bacteria, and combats smelly breath.

How to use:

1. You can either brush your teeth as normally by dipping wet toothbrush into a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, or
2. You can make your own homemade toothpaste by mixing baking soda and sea salt.

How Often?

You can either completely replace your traditional toothpaste with baking soda and/or sea salt, or simply use it once or two times a week as an addition to your dental care.

Any Side Effects?

According to Dr. Paul H. Keyes D.D.S., clinical investigator at the National Institute of Dental Research, there is NO side effects ! Keyes maintains, “Over the years when I was lecturing, I asked thousands of dentists and hygienists to raise their hands if they had ever seen destructive periodontal disease in person[s] who had regularly brushed with salt and/or [baking] soda. I have never seen a hand! And although I have not seen many such cases, the periodontal health in these patients has always been excellent.”
